PURPOSE: The synergistic effects of combining arsenic compounds with imatinib against chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) have been established using in vitro data. We conducted a clinical trial to compare the efficacy of the arsenic realgar-indigo naturalis formula (RIF) plus imatinib with that of imatinib monotherapy in patients with newly diagnosed chronic phase CML (CP-CML). METHODS: In this multicenter, randomized, double-blind, phase 3 trial, 191 outpatients with newly diagnosed CP-CML were randomly assigned to receive oral RIF plus imatinib (n = 96) or placebo plus imatinib (n = 95). The primary end point was the major molecular response (MMR) at 6 months. Secondary end points include molecular response 4 (MR4), molecular response 4.5 (MR4.5), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and adverse events. RESULTS: The median follow-up duration was 51 months. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the recruitment to this study had to be terminated early, on May 28, 2020. The rates of MMR had no significant statistical difference between combination and imatinib arms at 6 months and any other time during the trial. MR4 rates were similar in both arms. However, the 12-month cumulative rates of MR4.5 in the combination and imatinib arms were 20.8% and 10.5%, respectively (p = 0.043). In core treatment since the 2-year analysis, the frequency of MR4.5 was 55.6% in the combination arm and 38.6% in the imatinib arm (p = 0.063). PFS and OS were similar at five years. The safety profiles were similar and serious adverse events were uncommon in both groups. CONCLUSION: The results of imatinib plus RIF as a first-line treatment of CP-CML compared with imatinib might be more effective for achieving a deeper molecular response (Chinadrugtrials number, CTR20170221).

BACKGROUND: The autologous anti-B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy LCAR-B38M has been approved for the treatment of relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma in many countries across the world under the name ciltacabtagene autoleucel. LEGEND-2 was the first-in-human trial of LCAR-B38M and yielded deep and durable therapeutic responses. Here, we reported the outcomes in LEGEND-2 after a minimal 5-year follow-up. METHODS: Participants received an average dose of 0.5 × 106 cells/kg LCAR-B38M in split or single unfractionated infusions after cyclophosphamide-based lymphodepletion therapy. Investigator-assessed response, survival, safety and pharmacokinetics were evaluated. RESULTS: Seventy-four participants enrolled and had a median follow-up of 65.4 months. The 5-year progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) rates were 21.0% and 49.1%, with progressive flattening of the survival curves over time. Patients with complete response (CR) had longer PFS and OS, with 5-year rates of 28.4% and 65.7%, respectively. Twelve patients (16.2%) remained relapse-free irrespective of baseline high-risk cytogenetic abnormality and all had normal humoral immunity reconstituted. An ongoing CR closely correlated with several prognostic baseline indices including favorable performance status, immunoglobulin G subtype, and absence of extramedullary disease, as well as a combination cyclophosphamide and fludarabine preconditioning strategy. Sixty-two (83.8%) suffered progressive disease (PD) and/or death; however, 61.1% of PD patients could well respond to subsequent therapies, among which, the proteasome inhibitor-based regimens benefited the most. Concerning the safety, hematologic and hepatic function recovery were not significantly different between non-PD and PD/Death groups. A low rate of second primary malignancy (5.4%) and no severe virus infection were observed. The patients who tested positive for COVID-19 merely presented self-limiting symptoms. In addition, a sustainable CAR T population of one case with persistent remission was delineated, which was enriched with indolently proliferative and lowly cytotoxic CD4/CD8 double-negative functional T lymphocytes. CONCLUSIONS: These data, representing the longest follow-up of BCMA-redirected CAR T-cell therapy to date, demonstrate long-term remission and survival with LCAR-B38M for advanced myeloma. Background: This study aimed to investigate putative causal effects between constipation and stroke using bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Methods: Based on the cross-sectional study, logistic regression models were developed to assess the association between constipation and stroke prevalence. Subsequently, genome-wide association studies statistics were employed to perform MR analysis between constipation and stroke, as well as its subtypes. The inverse variance weighting (IVW) method was the primary method, complemented by four additional methods, namely weighted median, weighted mode, simple mode, and MR-Egger regression. Cochran's Q test, MR-Egger intercept test, MR Pleiotropy RESidual Sum and Outlier, and MR Steiger test were performed to assess heterogeneity and pleiotropy effects. Results: Constipation was associated with a greater risk of stroke even after adjusting for all covariates in logistic regression [odds ratio (OR) = 1.46, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.01-2.09, p = 0.042]. IVW MR analysis revealed that constipation affected large artery atherosclerosis (LAS; IVW OR = 1.5, 95% CI = 1.07-2.104, p = 0.019). No significant or suggestive association was observed with the risk of stroke or its various subtypes in MR analysis. Meanwhile, reverse MR analysis revealed no significant causal relationship between stroke or other stroke subtypes and constipation. The results of sensitivity analyses revealed no significant horizontal pleiotropy affecting causal estimates. Conclusion: While cross-sectional studies have established that constipation increases the risk of stroke, this two-sample bidirectional MR analysis revealed a positive correlation between constipation and LAS. However, no such correlation was observed between constipation and stroke, including its various subtypes.

We construct an islamic lattice by considering the nearest-neighbor (NN) hoppings with staggered magnetic fluxes and the next-NN hoppings. This model supports abundant quantum phases for various values of filling fractions. At1/4filling, Chern insulator (CI) phases with Chern numbersC=±1, -2and a zero-Chern-number topological insulator (ZCNTI) phase exist. At3/8filling, several CI phases with Chern numbersC=±1, 3and the ZCNTI phase are obtained. For the filling fraction 3/4, CI phases with Chern numbersC=±1, 2and two ZCNTI phase areas appear. Interestingly, these ZCNTI phases host both robust corner states and gapless edge states which can be characterized by the quantized polarization and quadrupole moment. We further find that staggered magnetic fluxes can give rise to the ZCNTI state at1/4and3/4fillings. Phase diagrams for filling fractions1/8,1/2,5/8and7/8are presented as well. In addition, flat bands are obtained for various filling fractions by tuning the hopping parameters. At 1/8 filling, a best topological flat band (TFB) with flatness ratio about 12 appears. Several trivial flat bands but with total Chern number|C|=1emerge in this model and exactly flat band is found at 3/8 filling. We further investigateν=1/2fractional Chern insulate state when hard-core bosons fill into this TFB model.

OBJECTIVES: Titanium implants are regarded as a promising treatment modality for replacing missing teeth. Osteointegration and antibacterial properties are both desirable characteristics for titanium dental implants. The aim of this study was to create zinc (Zn)-, strontium (Sr)-, and magnesium (Mg)-multidoped hydroxyapatite (HAp) porous coatings, including HAp, Zn-doped HAp, and Zn-Sr-Mg-doped HAp, on titanium discs and implants using the vapor-induced pore-forming atmospheric plasma spraying (VIPF-APS) technique. METHODS: The mRNA and protein levels of osteogenesis-associated genes such as collagen type I alpha 1 chain (COL1A1), decorin (DCN), osteoprotegerin (TNFRSF11B), and osteopontin (SPP1) were examined in human embryonic palatal mesenchymal cells. The antibacterial effects against periodontal bacteria, including Porphyromonas gingivalis and Prevotella nigrescens, were investigated. In addition, a rat animal model was used to evaluate new bone formation via histologic examination and micro-computed tomography (CT). RESULTS: The ZnSrMg-HAp group was the most effective at inducing mRNA and protein expression of TNFRSF11B and SPP1 after 7 days of incubation, and TNFRSF11B and DCN after 11 days of incubation. In addition, both the ZnSrMg-HAp and Zn-HAp groups were effective against P. gingivalis and P. nigrescens. Furthermore, according to both in vitro studies and histologic findings, the ZnSrMg-HAp group exhibited the most prominent osteogenesis and concentrated bone growth along implant threads. SIGNIFICANCE: A porous ZnSrMg-HAp coating using VIPF-APS could serve as a novel technique for coating titanium implant surfaces and preventing further bacterial infection.

BACKGROUND: Multiple myeloma remains incurable despite treatment advancements over the last 20 years. LCAR-B38M Cells in Treating Relapsed/Refractory Multiple Myeloma was a phase 1, first-in-human, investigator-initiated study in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma conducted at four sites in China. The study used LCAR-B38M chimeric antigen receptor-T cells expressing two B-cell maturation antigen-targeting single-domain antibodies designed to confer avidity, and a CD3ζ signaling domain with a 4-1BB costimulatory domain to optimize T-cell activation and proliferation. This chimeric antigen receptor construct is identical to ciltacabtagene autoleucel. In the LEGEND-2 study (n = 57, Xi'an site), overall response rate was 88%; median (95% CI) progression-free survival and overall survival were 19.9 (9.6-31.0) and 36.1 (26.4-not evaluable) months, respectively; and median follow-up was 25 months. This case study reports on a patient with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (λ light chain type) who was treated with LCAR-B38M chimeric antigen receptor T cells in the LEGEND-2 study (Xi'an site); he had received five prior lines of treatment and had extensive extramedullary lesions. CASE PRESENTATION: The patient, a 56-year-old Asian male, received cyclophosphamide (500 mg daily × 3 days) as lymphodepletion therapy and a total dose of 0.5 × 106 chimeric antigen receptor + T cells/kg split into three infusions (days 1, 24, and 84 from June to August 2016). He experienced grade 2 cytokine release syndrome after the first infusion; all symptoms resolved with treatment. No cytokine release syndrome occurred following the second and third infusions. His λ light chain levels decreased and normalized 20 days after the first infusion, and extramedullary lesions were healed as of January 2018. He has sustained remission for 5 years and received no other multiple myeloma treatments after LCAR-B38M chimeric antigen receptor T cell infusion. As of 30 October 2020, the patient is still progression-free and has maintained minimal residual disease-negative (10-4) complete response status for 52 months. CONCLUSIONS: This case provides support that treatment with LCAR-B38M chimeric antigen receptor T cells can result in long-term disease remission of 5 or more years without disease progression in a heavily pretreated patient with extensive extramedullary disease and no other treatment options.

Polygonatum odoratum (Mill.) Druce, a member of Liliaceae, is one of the traditional Chinese herbal plants mainly used in Jilin, Hubei, Guangxi, Zhejiang, Liaoning, Hunan and Guangdong provinces. Leaf spot disease of P. odoratum was continuously observed in the Planting Demonstration Garden in Changsha (28 °48 N; 113° 34E), Hunan Province of China, in May 2021 and May 2022. The symptoms initially appeared as tiny reddish-brown spots and continued to expand, resulting in round, oval, or irregular tan lesions with necrotic, film-shaped, or perforated central tissues. Leaf spot disease affects approximately 60-70% of plants. For pathogen isolation, symptomatic leaf samples were collected and disinfected with 70% ethanol for 30 s and 3% sodium hypochlorite for 2 min, followed by rinsing with sterile distilled water. Subsequently, small pieces (3 × 3 mm) of diseased tissues were placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and incubated in the dark at 25 °C for 24 h to 36 h. The emerging fungal hyphal tips were transferred to PDA and purified by the single-spore method (Yu, et al., 202). In total, 50 disease spots were isolated, and 10 cultures with the same appearance were obtained. Two strains coded as hnxryzy and hnxryzy01 were randomly selected for identification. After 6 days of culture in PDA, dense pink colonies were observed with a mean radial growth rate of 7.5 mm/day. Strains cultured 6 days on synthetic low nutrient medium, microconidia were oval or ovate (7.5-9.67 µm × 2.49-3.57 µm(n = 50)), and macroconidia were sickle-shaped and slightly curved, gradually tapering at both ends, with 2-5 pseudoseptate (10.01-22.14 µm × 2.07-4.22 µm (n = 50)). These morphological characteristics were consistent with the description of Fusarium fujikuroi (Fang, et al., 2021). Furthermore, primers ITS1/ITS4, EF728F/EF986R, Bt2a/Bt2b, RPB1-F5/RPB1-R8 and fRPB2-5F2/fRPB2-7cR (Li, et al., 2013, Xie, et al., 2022) were used to amplify the partial region of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) , the translation elongation factor EF-1α,ß-tubulin,polymerase II largest subunit (RPB1) and RNA polymerase II second largest subunit (RPB2) genes from strains hnxryzy and hnxryzy01, respectively. Amplicons were sequenced by Tsingke Biotechnology Co., Ltd. The expected sequences of ITS, EF-1α, ß-tubulin, RPB1 and RPB2 of hnxryzy and hnxryzy01 were obtained. The sequence alignment of hnxryzj and hnxryzj01 with the Fusarium ID databased and NCBI shows the following results: The sequences of ITS region, EF-1α, ß-tubulin , RPB1 and RPB2 of strain hnxryzy (GenBank accession nos. ON797440, ON820553, ON820554, OP413443, and OP413445, respectively) and strain hnxryzy01 (GenBank accession nos. ON965284, ON968721, ON968722, OP413444, and OP413446, respectively) were 99% to 100% identical to those of F. fujikuroi (GenBank accession numbers CP023090, KC874784, MN490089, MN193916, and MN193888, respectively). Then a phylogenetic tree based on EF-1α, RPB1, and RPB2 sequences was constructed (Torres-Cruz, et al., 2022). The strains hnxryzy and hnxryzy01 were more closely related to F. fujikuroi ( NRRL13566 GenBank accession nos. AF160279, JX171456, and JX171570, respectively), with bootstrap values of 99%. Two sets (5 plants in each set) of potted plants were used in pathogenicity assays. Wounded leaves were sprayed with conidial suspensions (100 µL, 1 × 107 spores/mL) and sterile water as control. Inoculated plants were covered with plastic bags for 24 h, and maintained at 25 ° C in 12/12 h light/dark conditions in the greenhouse (Yu, et al., 2022). Pathogenicity assays were repeated thrice. Dark brown spots identical to those seen in the field were observed 14 days after inoculation, while the control leaves did not exhibit any symptoms. In this study, the pathogen F. fujikuroi was successfully reisolated from the leaves of inoculated samples showing symptoms, thereby verifying Koch's postulate. To our knowledge, this is the first report of F. fujikuroi inducing leaf spot on P. odoratum in China. Since F. fujikuroi is a common pathogenic fungus that infects different plant species(Qiu, et al., 2020), more attention should be paid to its prevalence in P. odoratum and the potential risk of outbreak in other provinces of China.

BACKGROUND: LCAR-B38M is a chimeric antigen receptor T cell product with two binding domains targeting B cell maturation antigen. Our previous reports showed a remarkable efficacy of LCAR-B38M in patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) at a median follow-up of 2 years. Here, we report long-term safety and efficacy data from a median follow-up of 4 years. METHODS: LEGEND-2 was a phase 1, single-arm, open-label study conducted in four registered sites in China. Seventy-four participants with RRMM received LCAR-B38M treatment. Lymphodepletion was performed using cyclophosphamide or cyclophosphamide plus fludarabine. LCAR-B38M, at a median dose of 0.513 × 106 cells/kg, was intravenously administered either in three split infusions or in a single infusion. The primary objective was the safety of LCAR-B38M, and the secondary objective was efficacy. RESULTS: As of May 25, 2021, the median follow-up was 47.8 months. All patients experienced ≥ 1 adverse events (AEs). Grade ≥ 3 AEs were observed in 45/74 (60.8%) patients. Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) occurred in 68/74 (91.9%) cases; 7 (9.5%) had grade ≥ 3 CRS. One patient experienced grade 1 central nervous system toxicity. The overall response rate was 87.8%. Fifty-four out of 74 (73.0%) patients achieved complete response. The median progression-free survival was 18.0 months, and the median overall survival for all patients was not reached. The median duration of response was 23.3 months. Four patients experienced viral infection more than 6 months post-infusion, and four patients developed second primary non-hematological malignancies at a median time of 11.5 months post-CAR-T cell transfer. CONCLUSIONS: The 4-year follow-up data of LCAR-B38M therapy demonstrated a favorable long-term safety profile and a durable response in patients with RRMM. Membranes with high selectivity offer an attractive route to molecular separations, where technologies such as distillation and chromatography are energy intensive. However, it remains challenging to fine tune the structure and porosity in membranes, particularly to separate molecules of similar size. Here, we report a process for producing composite membranes that comprise crystalline porous organic cage films fabricated by interfacial synthesis on a polyacrylonitrile support. These membranes exhibit ultrafast solvent permeance and high rejection of organic dyes with molecular weights over 600 g mol-1. The crystalline cage film is dynamic, and its pore aperture can be switched in methanol to generate larger pores that provide increased methanol permeance and higher molecular weight cut-offs (1,400 g mol-1). By varying the water/methanol ratio, the film can be switched between two phases that have different selectivities, such that a single, 'smart' crystalline membrane can perform graded molecular sieving. We exemplify this by separating three organic dyes in a single-stage, single-membrane process.

BACKGROUND: The Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Adults was released in 2020. There is a dearth of evidence on the association between adherence to the 24 h movement guidelines and health indicators. This study aims to (a) explore the associations between potential correlates and meeting the 24 h movement guidelines using a sample of Chinese university students; and (b) examine if meeting 24 h movement guidelines is associated with the severity of anxiety symptoms. METHODS: Cross-sectional findings are based on 1846 Chinese university students (mean age = 20.7 years, 64.0% female). Movement behaviors (physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep duration), possible correlates, and anxiety symptoms were measured through self-reported online questionnaires. Logistic regression models were performed to examine the associations. RESULTS: We found that male students and those who had a mother with a master's degree or above, more close friends and higher perceived family affluence were more likely to meet the overall 24 h guidelines. Meeting all 24 h movement guidelines presented the lower odds for severe anxiety symptoms than those meeting fewer recommendations in the 24 h movement guidelines. CONCLUSIONS: As one of the first to examine the correlates of adherence to the 24 h movement guidelines and the relationship between anxiety symptoms and meeting the guidelines among Chinese university students, our findings contribute to the growing body of evidence linking movement behaviors, psychosocial correlates, and heath indicators. Schools and health providers can encourage movement behaviors that follow the guidelines on campus.

We explore extensively topological quantum phase transitions (TQPTs) of the breathing kagomé lattice model in the presence of staggered fluxes. We obtain rich topological phases, including the Chern insulator (CI) and the second-order topological insulator (SOTI) phases, by tuning the dimerized hopping parametert1' and the staggered-flux parameterϕ. The CI phases can be identified on the basis of the chiral edge states and the non-zero Chern numbers. However, in sharp contrast to the CI phases, the SOTI phases are characterized by the robust corner states and the quantized polarizations. In addition, we explore the TQPTs considering the next-nearest-neighbor hopping parametert2. We demonstrate the existence of two-dimensional SOTIs with broken time-reversal symmetry and reveal the TQPTs between the CIs and the SOTIs.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore the effect of sex determining region Y-box 9 (SOX9) on the microtubule formation and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of human oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) CAL27 and the underlying mechanism. METHODS: SOX9-shRNA1 and SOX9-shRNA2 were designed and synthesized and then transfected into CAL27 cells. The expression of SOX9 was detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Microtubule formation assay was used to detect the change in the number of microtubule nodules after interfering with SOX9. Immunofluorescence was used to detect the Vimentin content. Western blot was used to detect the protein expression of EMT marker molecules and Wnt/ß-catenin pathway-related proteins, such as E-cadherin, N-cadherin, Fibronectin, Wnt, ß-catenin, T-cell factor-4 (TCF-4). RESULTS: The expression level of SOX9 significantly decreased after transfection with SOX9-shRNA1 and SOX9-shRNA2 in CAL27 cells (F=578.000, P=0.000; F=96.850, P=0.000). Interference with SOX9 inhibited the EMT of OSCC. After interference with SOX9, the number of tubules and Vimentin positive cells decreased significantly (F=169.700, P=0.000). The expression level of E-cadherin significantly increased (F=181.400, P=0.000). The expression levels of N-cadherin, Fibronectin, Wnt, ß-catenin, and TCF-4 proteins significantly decreased (N-cadherin: F=101.400, P=0.000; Fibronectin: F=122.300, P=0.000; Wnt: F=70.290, P=0.000; ß-catenin: F=81.740, P=0.000; TCF-4: F=37.020, P=0.000). CONCLUSIONS: Interference with SOX9 decreased Vimentin content and inhibited the microtubule formation and protein expression of EMT marker molecules, as well as the expression of proteins related to the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway. Chern insulators (CIs) have attracted great interests for the realization of quantum Hall states without external magnetic field. Recently, CIs have been studied on various curved lattices, such as the cone-like lattices and the fullerenes. However, few works were reported how to identify curved-CIs and explore their topological phase transitions (TPTs). In this paper, we systemically investigate the curved-CIs with arbitraryn-fold rotational symmetry on cone-like and saddle-like lattices (also dubbed asCn-symmetric CIs), by 'cutting and gluing' unit sectors with a disk geometry. TheseCn-symmetric CIs can be identified based on the chiral edge states, the real-space Chern number and the quantized conductance. Here, we propose two ways to calculate the real-space Chern number, the Kitaev's formula and the local Chern marker. Furthermore, the TPTs of curved CIs are explored by tuning staggered flux and on-site mass.

Engineering coatings with precise physicochemical properties allows for control over the interface of a material and its interactions with the surrounding environment. However, assembling coatings with well-defined properties on different material classes remains a challenge. Herein, we report a co-assembly strategy to precisely control the structure and properties (e.g., thickness, adhesion, wettability, and zeta potential) of coatings on various materials (27 substrates examined) using quinone and polyamine building blocks. By increasing the length of the amine building blocks from small molecule diamines to branched amine polymers, we tune the properties of the films, including the thickness (from ca. 5 to ca. 50 nm), interfacial adhesion (0.05 to 5.54 nN), water contact angle (130 to 40°), and zeta potential (-42 to 28 mV). The films can be post-functionalized through the in situ formation of diverse nanostructures, including nanoparticles, nanorods, and nanocrystals. Our approach provides a platform for the rational design of engineered, substrate-independent coatings for various applications.

Nanostructured materials have interesting optical and electronic properties that are often drastically different from those of their bulk counterparts. While bulk organic/inorganic semiconductor composites have attracted much attention in the past decade, the preparation of organic/inorganic semiconductor nanocomposites (OISNs) still remains challenging. This work presents an assembly method for the co-encapsulation of titanium dioxide dots (TDs) with a cyano-substituted soluble conjugated polymer (CSCP) into a particular nanoparticle. The as-prepared CSCP/TD semiconductor nanocomposites (CSCP/TD NCs) exhibit different particle surfaces and morphologies depending on the mass ratio of the CSCP to TDs. We then tested them as photocatalysts for sacrificial hydrogen production from water. We found that nanocomposites outperformed nanoparticles of the individual components and physical mixtures thereof. The most active CSCP/TD NC had a catalytic H2 production rate that was 4.25 times higher than that of pure polymer nanoparticles prepared under the same conditions. We ascribe this to energy transfer between the semiconductors, where direct phase contact is essential, highlighting a potential avenue for using soluble, visible light-absorbing conjugated organic polymers to build Z-schemes for overall water splitting in the future.

Sedum plumbizincicola X.H. Guo et S.B. Zhou sp. nov. is a plant species of the family Crassulaceae that has the ability to hyperaccumulate cadmium and zinc in high concentrations (Liu et al. 2017). In April of 2018 and 2019, a disease of damping-off was observed on S. plumbizincicola seedlings in a nursery in Changsha (28°13'N; 112°56'E), the Hunan Province of China, in which nearly 1 million seedlings were planted. Approximately 40% of the surveyed plants were infected. The affected plants displayed water-soaking on the shoots and stems, and chlorosis on the leaves. As the disease spread upward, leaf stalks or the whole plants became wilted and collapsed. Five diseased stem and leaf samples were collected. Symptomatic tissues were excised and surface sterilized with 70% ethanol for 10 s, and 0.1% HgCl2 for 2 min, washed with sterile distilled water for three times, and then cultured on potato dextrose agar (PDA) at 26°C in darkness. Fungal colonies were similar in morphology: white, light gray to brown, with hyphae branched at nearly right angles, septa near the branching point and constrictions at the base of hyphal branches. After 10 days, white-gray to brown sclerotia were produced. The morphological characteristics were consistent with those of Rhizoctonia solani J.G. Kühn (Sneh et al. 1991). Genomic DNA of a representative isolate was extracted using the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide method. The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of rDNA was amplified and sequenced with the primer pairs ITS4/ITS5 (White et al. 1990). When analyzed by the BLASTn program, the ITS sequence (GenBank Accession No. MN961664) had 100% identity to the corresponding gene sequence of R. solani anastomosis group (AG) 2-1(Accession Nos: LC202869.1 and MH862641.1). In addition, primers Rhsp1/ITS4B and Rhsp2/ITS1F specific for R. solani, and AG21sp/ITS4B specific for R. solani AG 2-1 were also used (Salazar et al. 2000). Results revealed that our isolate was R. solani AG 2-1. Pathogenicity was confirmed via in vivo inoculation of one-month-old S. plumbizincicola seedlings in sterilized nursery soil with four representative isolates. For each pot, five 5-mm-diameter mycelial plugs from 7-days old colonies on PDA were placed in the soil near the base of the stems. Plants inoculated with agar plugs without mycelium served as controls. The inoculated plants were kept in a growth chamber at 25°C with a 12/12 h light/dark cycle. Pathogenicity tests were performed twice, with three replicative potted plants for each isolate in each test. Approximately 25 days after inoculation, the damping-off symptoms resembling those observed in the field were displayed on the inoculated plants, while no obvious symptoms were observed on the control plants. R. solani was re-isolated from all infected plants and molecularly characterized, thus confirming Koch's postulates. R. solani has been previously reported as the pathogen of damping-off disease in many plants, such as canola (Paulitz et al. 2006) and oat (Zhang et al. 2016). However, to the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of R. solani causing damping-off of S. plumbizincicola in China. S. plumbizincicola is widely planted for heavy metal pollution treatment in China. The occurrence of this disease could seriously affect the production of the seedlings, and management strategies should be developed.

Comparison of different anticoagulants in blood management and complications with tranexamic acid (TXA) in total hip arthroplasty (THA) is unclear. Our aim was to compare the efficacy and safety among receiving nadroparin calcium, enoxaparin sodium or rivaroxaban after TXA in THA.150 patients undergoing primary unilateral THA were received 15 mg/kg intravenous TXA (IV-TXA) before skin incision, followed by 1 of nadroparin calcium (Group A), enoxaparin sodium (Group B), or rivaroxaban (Group C) randomly during hospitalization. The primary outcome was hidden blood loss (HBL). Other outcomes such as the maximum hemoglobin (Hb) drop, total blood loss (TBL), the volume of drainage, transfusion rate, length of hospital stay (LOS), and complications were also compared.There were no statistically significant differences in HBL, the maximum hemoglobin (Hb) drop, transfusion rate, and complications among 3 groups. LOS was significantly higher for patients in Group B than Group A (P = .026). Neither deep venous thrombosis (DVT) nor pulmonary embolism (PE) occurred in any group.There were no differences in efficacy and safety in patients undergoing THA receiving nadroparin calcium, enoxaparin sodium, or rivaroxaban after anti-fibrinolysis with TXA.

OBJECTIVE: To reconstruct the acromioclavicular (AC) joint using an adjusted closed-loop double Endobutton technique via a guiding locator that was applied using three-dimensional (3D) printing technology. At the same time, the reliability and safety of the novel double Endobutton (NDE) were tested by comparing the biomechanics of this technique with the TightRope (TR) approach. METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted between January 2017 and January 2019. The Department of Anatomy at Southern Medical University obtained 18 fresh-frozen specimens (8 left and 10 right; 12 men and 6 women). First, the guiding locators were applied using 3D printing technology. After preparation of materials, specimens were divided into an NDE group, a TR group, and a normal group. In the NDE and TR groups, the navigation module was used to locate and establish the bone tunnels; after that, the NDE or TR was implanted. However, the Endobuttons were fixed while pressing the distal clavicle downwards and the length of the loop could be adjusted by changing the upper Endobutton in the NDE group while the suture button construct was tensioned and knotted after pressing down the distal clavicle in the TR. Finally, load testing in anterior-posterior (AP), superior-inferior (SI), and medial-lateral (ML) directions as well as load-to-failure testing in the SI direction were undertaken to verify whether the NDE or TR had better biomechanics. RESULTS: In the load testing, the displacements of the NDE and TR groups in the AP, SI, and ML direction were significantly shorter than those of the normal group (P < 0.05). In the load-to-failure testing, the ultimate load of the NDE and TR groups had significantly higher increases than the normal group (722.16 ± 92.04 vs 564.63 ± 63.05, P < 0.05; 680.20 ± 110.29 vs 564.63 ± 63.05, P < 0.05). However, there was no statistically significant difference between the two techniques for these two tests (P > 0.05). In the NDE group, four of six failures were a result of tunnel fractures of the coracoid, while two of six were due to suture breakage. In the TR, three failures were due to coracoid tunnel fractures, one was a result of a clavicle tunnel fracture, and the rest were due to suture breakage. In the normal group, half of the failures were a result of avulsion fractures of the conical ligament at the point of the coracoid process, and the other three were due to rupture of the conical ligament, fracture of the distal clavicle, and fracture of the scapular body. CONCLUSION: As for the TR technique, the stability and strength of the AC joint were better in patients who underwent reconstruction using the NDE technique than in the intact state.

Chern insulators (CIs) or quantum anomalous Hall (QAH) states have drawn more attention, with emergence of quantized Hall conductance but in absence of Landau levels. Here, we study the Haldane-type CI/QAH states on Möbius strips and focus on the quantum transport properties. The Möbius strips can be constructed from the twisted honeycomb-lattice strips with domain walls. Topological properties of the Möbius CI/QAH states can be identified by the local density of states, the real-space Chern numbers and the transport properties. Nearly perfect quantized conductance plateaus are observed in the numerical quantum-transport simulations. In addition, we found that adding magnetic flux in domain walls can induce alternating edge states. At last, we discussed in details the different lead connection schemes, and found that we can use multiple domain walls to obtain various higher quantized conductance plateaus.

BACKGROUND The evidence on the link of dietary calcium (DCa) to human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is limited. Thus, this research was conducted to explore whether DCa is independently associated with HPV infection status in American women with age of 18 to 59 years old. MATERIAL AND METHODS We performed a secondary analysis from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data set including 7 cycles from 2003 to 2016. A total of 13 475 selected participants were used for data analysis. The interested independent and the outcome variable were DCa and HPV infection status (HPV infection; HPV subtype). Sociodemographic, dietary, laboratory, questionnaire, and physical examination data were covariates. Weighted binary logistic regression and generalized additive model (GAM) were used for the investigation of both linear and non-linear relationships between DCa and HPV infection status. RESULTS Weighted multivariable binary logistic regression indicated DCa was not associated with HPV infection and subtype (OR: 0.93; 95% CI: 0.82-1.05 for HPV infection; OR: 1.09; 95% CI: 0.93-1.28 for HPV subtype). For HPV infection, a non-linear correlation was detected, whose inflection points were 9.78 of log2 DCa. The OR values and the confidence intervals on both sides of inflection point were 0.83 (95% CI: 0.70-0.98) and 1.18 (95% CI: 0.91-1.52), respectively. CONCLUSIONS At the range of 3.32-9.78 of log2 calcium intake, DCa intake was negatively correlated with HPV infection. After this interval, DCa intake was not associated with the risk of HPV infection.
